Room to Grow and Find Themselves

The first years of school are supposed to be an experience to remember for the rest of your life. Unfortunately, if you choose badly, your child will become self-critical, overwhelmed and reluctant to go to school within a few months!

We all feel down sometimes, but to hear "Do I really have to go?" nearly every day... you don't want that.

At One Tree Montessori, the junior primary class focuses on helping each child find their unique strengths. Learning happens hands-on, thanks to hundreds of specially designed materials.

With the mixed age group, children are exposed to a range of skills and personalities, making it easier to feel at ease with their own capabilities. They get to work collaboratively and deepen all they discovered in our pre-primary.

School becomes easy and enjoyable, and your child will be amazed at all they can do!

Adaptive Curriculum

The Montessori junior primary syllabus is structured over three years, giving each child the chance to work through it at their own pace.

collaborative exploration

With the mixed age grouping and flexible time table, our students are taught how to work together to deepen their learning.

meaningful lessons

Learning is easy when lessons are integrated across subjects and connected to each child's unique knowledge and interests.

soft skills foundation

Our curriculum is built on personality development. Students learn to make choices, handle consequences and manage their time.

Features of Our Montessori Class

Broad Curriculum

Our students learn science hands-on, as it is integrated with geography and biology. Arts and drama are woven into daily lessons, teaching skills and an appreciation for artists, especially from the global majority.

FAQs

  • What curriculum does Montessori follow?

We use the Montessori system of "scientific pedagogy" (you can read more about it here: What is Montessori?). It's being aligned to the Namibian syllabus as well as the Baden-Württemberg and Cambridge curricula.

  • How much does Grade 1 cost?

N$ 2000 to register (once-off, non-refundable) and N$ 1750 admin fee (on registration and every November).

School fees are N$ 3640 per month (for the whole junior primary phase). For a full breakdown and fee calculator, see our Tuition & Fees page.

  • Why does Montessori teach cursive?

There is a host of research on print vs. cursive. Overall, results are not clear on which is ultimately better.

We teach cursive because fast handwriting connects some letters and it is easier to stop connecting letters than figure out which ones to connect later.

All learning materials, however, are available in print and cursive and children who can write well already, are not forced to change their writing style.

  • What subjects or activities are offered?

The Montessori curriculum includes maths, languages, geography, biology, science, arts, history, music and life skills. Some things are taught in a different order to mainstream schools, which is why students must complete at least 3 years to get the full benefit of the program.

  • Does One Tree offer sports?

We have partnered with Bubbles Swimming and SFC to offer swimming classes and ball skills on a voluntary basis.

Such activities are separate from the school and paid directly to the coaches by families.
